Opening to the first episode:
IT’S GUSTY UP HERE IN THE FOREBODING SKY AND GREY DOOM-LADEN CLOUDS
A STUNNING GREAT HURRICANE IN THE MAKING, AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE
AND IT SEEMS TO BE HEADING TOWARDS A GROUP OF TINY ISLANDS IN THE EQUALLY GREY OCEAN…
WE ZOOM IN ON ONE OF THESE ‘ISLANDS’… ONE THEY HAVE NAMED NEW SYDNEY 21…
But what we at first thought was an island is in fact
A MASSIVE FLOATING CITY…
EXT. NEW SYDNEY 21 –
It’s one of 65 floating cities built to ride on the oceans of our world in post-annihilation times.
Right now, it looks as if it has seen better days. The glass-type dome roof is covered in dirt, algae, mud and moss giving it a derelict, defunct appearance as the hurricane starts to pummel its way in…
LEGEND
‘New Sydney 21 – Population 1.98 Million’
CLOSER IN –
PANNING around the single structure urban domain, exploring its exterior – other relics and artefacts from the past lie strewn around it’s outer rim, like a collage of mankind’s discarded history.
WE PEER IN THROUGH THE GRIMY GLASS-DOME – But it’s a gloomy sight, with apparently no sign of life. We leave to take a look elsewhere…
AND DIVE INTO THE WILD OCEAN – Descending deeper…
Deeper…
With nothing to see, UNTIL –
MONSTROUS FISHES STARTLE US!
mutated, distorted, prehistoric, they come out of nowhere, hideous reminders of the not so long ago time of rampant nuclear chaos.
Deeper still… getting closer to the bottom… and the remnants of a far older Sydney loom large and sad…
The once iconic SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE… or what’s left of it after two centuries of decomposition.
