Eco Kids Series outline (10 episodes)
Backstory and intro to Ep. 1: We are in the futuristic facility sitting on top of the ocean where the planet’s eco heroes are getting ready, and we see how truly devastated the world has become. A large part of the human population lives on these technologically advanced floating cities of the future, since much of the land mass of the world has fallen below the oceans and no longer accessible (a post Noah’s ark type scenario, there are thousands of floating cities that have been built over the past 100 years since global devastation occurred, it’s on these cities where mankind still manages to just about survive). The time travel takes place, they are transported from their base in the ocean back in time to our present. There are pressures around them to shut down by some of the world’s governments working together in a coalition that see their time travel work as potentially causing more chaos, and destroying what’s left of the current world, a risk they’re not prepared to take. However, they’re supported by a joint initiative by a few environmentally motivated countries for a better planet for the inhabitants, and they have decided to launch their green eco submarine from the secret base in the Pacific to travel back in time.
Ep. 1 – The whizz guy
The submarine travels back through time and emerges with the kids on board (having regressed from adult scientists), and they need to figure out what to do next. They are no longer adult scientists but have now turned into children, yet they retain most of what they knew as former adult scientists depending on their age and mental capacities. They manage to communicate to the time bubble in the future (a non-time changed environment in the future where they are being constantly monitored and supported) which charts their progress in their mission. They arrive in the San Francisco Bay where they hide their submarine. They check into a hotel in San Francisco. with the eldest pretending to be a parent (wearing a fake moustache and beard). The meet the young startup CEO of a company who gets killed in a car crash, a fatality that prevents him from making a scientific breakthrough that will protect crops from devastation in twenty-five years’ time when the earth’s climate radically changes for the worse. They find a simple solution by shrinking the engine of the car he was going to drive in to make it inoperable, and thus prevent the crash from occurring.
Ep. 2 – Back to mother nature
They head to Rio. There they meet an old scientist there called Roberto who works out of a run-down scientific lab. They tell him he must not develop a new technology which will damage plants through genetic modification, or it will lead to a greater famine all over the world! He mulls it over, and then tells them to leave as he doesn’t believe their story. He is a busy man and has a lot of work to do. Then they have an idea, they kidnap him and take him aboard their submarine to a village in the Amazon. In the village, they show him how the village people are suffering from the destruction of the rainforest and the destruction of their world. They explain to him that soon the whole world will suffer as its lungs and food supply start to disappear, and does he want to be part of this destruction. He tries to run away and gets lost in the rainforest, where he is bitten by a snake. They need to find him fast. They find him and rescue him. They take him back to the village where old world medicines from plants are applied to save his life and cancel out the deadly venom. The medicines heal him from the snake poison and he meets a beautiful local woman who nurses him back to his health. They plead to him not to make this dangerous breakthrough and he tells them he is going to stay in the village and help make the local villagers lives better and leave his old life behind that he didn’t really care for. They leave him in the village and head down the amazon river and on their way to the Atlantic Ocean.
Ep. 3 – The jaws of death
The Eco Kids have a long trip ahead of them to the UK where they are going to meet an eminent botanist Dr. Hilary Swayson. But there’s a problem, they must go to Peru because they have found that Dr. Swayson is presently on holiday with her fiance in Peru, and they must try and track her down whilst she is on holiday. They arrive in Peru and make their way to the hotel where Dr. Swayson is staying. They find out that it is in Peru where she and her fiance are robbed at night when walking down a street, and that Dr. Swayson is almost killed when they are attacked. She barely survives the vicious attack, however three years later this terrible incident catches up with her when she collapses whilst working on an important research project, and is admitted into hospital. A bloodborne pathogen eventually becomes active inside her body and kills her five years later. The best guess by the doctors based on the records is that she contracted the infection when she was travelling in Peru on her holiday. They stop the attack and Dr. Swayson thanks them for rescuing her and her fiance. All the time Dr Swayson complains about her tooth hurting badly. They leave her to say goodbye, when they realize that it may not have been the holdup that brought her the deadly infection but the dentist visit thereafter. They rush back just in time before Dr. Swayson has dental surgery performed, and she decides to postpone her dental repairs until she goes back to the UK. Dr. Swayson is told that she will do something very important in the future that will help to save the world from eco destruction. What is it, she asks? You will discover a way of fertilizing the soil to grow plants when there’s a large calamity that hits the world and risks destroying most plant life. What is this calamity? It’s best we don’t tell you. We have already said too much.
Ep. 4 – On the Potomac River
This time they head to Washington DC. A young politician at the start of his career is thinking of giving up. His name is David and he thinks he will make a terrible politician in the future. They get to visit the seat of government and see where American is run from. They go to Abraham Lincoln’s statue. It is there that they bump into David who is sitting quietly shaking his head, pondering his uncertain future as a politician. They try to convince him that he needs to continue with his politics and not give up. How can I believe who you are? You can come with us in our submarine. He agrees. As they head out along the Potomac, they are being followed by a patrol boat and they must take evasive actions in the river. They hide out nearby Quantico, the base of the Marine Corps. There they introduce David to Mexican American agent called Maria Gonzales. She is training to be a Marine Corps. David falls for her and tells her about the sub. This causes a problem as she alerts the authorities and they must make another daring escape. They leave David with Maria to carry on with their own timeline, narrowly escaping getting caught.
Ep. 5 – Bikini Leak
They need to travel to the Marshall Islands. A diving instructor who does tours to the Bikini Islands is concerned about something terrifying things he has seen on one of his recent diving trips. He has advised the government, but they don’t want to do anything about it, especially as the island is known for its previous nuclear tests and best to leave these things buried and out of the media. They find the diver, Brad, and they ask him to take them to the spot where he witnessed the terrifying anomaly. The US government has forbidden diving in the area after Brad had notified them of the contamination. They find the spot and notice a dangerous toxic leak into the sea. They test it and find that it’s a highly toxic nuclear active substance that is spreading and can cause severe damage to the world’s oceans. They try to work out where it’s from and then realize it’s emanating from the future. It’s like the Fukishima Daiichi disaster in the making, but it’s going to be worse. They need to close the leakage and work out that the only way to do this is to create an implosion at the source and shut down the time tunnel sending toxic sea water from the future into the past. They pass a small advanced explosive device into the leak and they detonate it remotely at source. The detonation goes off deep underground in the future, it’s an electronic detonation that instantly drains electronic devices, creating a small but perfectly timed explosion to close the time rift by stopping the surrounding technology that is keeping it open. It looks like the True World coalition of the future are looking to improve the odds of the world being further contaminated, to help counter any good that the Eco Kids can do. If they do too much harm, they may well do more harm than good and make it even worse, but they appear undeterred. Then there’s a sudden realization. What if there’s a team out there exactly like the Eco Kids, and their mission is to make sure the world becomes an ecological disaster to counter each step that they take. Perhaps that’s why the world is such a mess in our time. That’s impossible though. The future can’t create the past, but isn’t that exactly what the Eco Kids are doing? There was that data theft a few years back of the time subs schematics. True World may have gotten hold of it and built a time machine of their own which has sent their own scientists back into time. Will they be in the same time period, or working a few years before or after them? (Note this is a set up for Season 2 when the Eco Kids come across their opponents who are from the True World coalition, the portal sending the dangerous toxic substance is an early attempt, and only touched upon in the first series).
Ep. 6 – The real Dr. Vogel
The Eco Kids are handed a mission to go to Germany and meet the descendants of Dr. Vogel in Berlin. They need to travel back in time as they are in the wrong place and time for the encounter. They use the time machine to go back a few more decades but they are worried that if they travel back they will regress even more, so they use a special distortion into the time travel that will hopefully shield them from further regression. As they travel back, a strange thing happens, the time drift over compensates and they are sent back to 1940, and in the time of the third Reich. The machine is damaged and they need to repair it. More worryingly, Dr. Vogel has fallen out of the distortion and he has returned to his own self as an old man. They are still able to discover the secret of Dr. Vogel’s background in this time period, and they are sent on a mission to Nazi Germany. How will they get in though? They are disguised as soldiers of the third Reich. They make their way into Germany by commandeering an SS car and they find their way to Berlin. As they enter Berlin, Dr Vogel is stopped and accused of being a Jew. The soldier takes Dr Vogel hostage and locks him up to take him to the concentration camp. The Eco Kids needs to find help quick. They meet with the resistance and get help to free Dr. Vogel. Dr. Vogel meets one of his descendants, Heinrich Vogel, a reclusive scientist. Heinrich is working for the Third Reich to manufacture a destructive ecological weapon. He says it is the destiny of the Vogel’s to invent the destructive powers of the world and this weapon will poison all the plants. Dr. Vogel is baffled. Should they try to stop Heinrich? Heinrich agrees he will run away rather and work for Dr. Vogel. As they run away they are hounded by the Nazis and attached by a German Uboat. They are shot and and Heinrich is killed. They head back to their submarine and descend too deep for the Uboat to find them. The submarine is repaired. Dr Vogel admits that he for a while worked for the True World coalition (who had visited him before), and he helped them develop several devices, but left them to work on the Eco Kids project when he realized he was on the wrong side. They are very dangerous. They travel back to the present and Dr Vogel returns to a baby.
Ep. 7 – Breaking up the bank
The Eco Kids are sent to the World Seed Bank which is built inside a sandstone mountain in a man-made tunnel on the frozen Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, which is part of the Svalbard archipelago, about 1,307 kilometers (812 mi) from the North Pole. It’s designed to survive catastrophes such as nuclear war and even a world war. There is a threat from the past when the seed bank has an electrical failure that causes an explosion inside of it and destroys half the world’s seeds in storage there. Replacing it takes years, and some may not be replaceable due to genetic erosion. The Eco Kids go to the World Seed Bank, and identify the cause of the explosion that’s about to happen. The Eco Kids sneak into the World Seed Bank but are arrested. They are held in a small room which serves as a prison for them. They need to find a way out as the accident will happen later on that evening. They figure out a way to get out of their cell and make their way to the accident site. They head to the area where the accident takes place and uncover a detonating device. They examine the device and they know it’s from the future, it’s too advanced for the time period. It looks like the Eco Kids have someone from the future already trying to cause havoc to the world, and this is another incident that has sought to bring the world to ecological disaster from the future. They deactivate the device and they trace the person heading towards the sea. They see a dark submarine disappear. It looks like the other Eco team set to cause havoc is already here.
Ep. 8 – Harry’s beginning
Harry Patel is having a very difficult time. He cannot accept that the world is the way it is. He is finding it hard to accept the incredible obstacles that they are facing, and the importance of what they are trying to achieve. He remembers back to his childhood in New Mumbai 17 where they would go watch the films in the cinema. His parents would take him and he had such a wonderful time. Harry is transported back to his past and he realizes that life even in those times was a lot simpler than it is now. At home, they are eating a very limited selection of foods, and Harry complains about his supper. His mother tells him she will take him to the food store where the food is grown and processed. The food store is a large green house in New Mumbai, and there he marvels at the selection of plants that are being grown. He also meets Seema there, a young girl of similar age to him. They talk about the past and he mentions his love of old movies. She mentions that she loves the old toys, but they are very hard to get. Just at that time, there’s a major storm warning and the whole place begins to shake and rattle. They retreat into one of the safety bunkers as the city shudders from the storm. This happens sometimes when the oceans are uneasy and dangerous typhoons and cyclones play havoc with the large floating cities of the future. Harry is in the submarine when a similar thing happens, and the waters are extremely turbulent around them, as he returns from his day dream. The submarine stops working and it sinks to the bed of the sea. But where they are is very deep and they keep sinking and sinking. The submarine shudders from the pressure. Then they hit bottom. They try to fix it and Harry thinks back to those earlier times. Deep in the sea bed it is very dark, and they discover man made substances on the floor, plastics, rubbish that has contaminated the sea over the years. How did we ever get it so wrong, he ponders? The submarine is repaired and Harry takes Seema to see one of his favorite films as he day dreams again, ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.’ Wouldn’t it be amazing to travel around in a submarine young Harry thinks, and not just be stuck in a city.
Ep 9 – Secrets and Fibs
They are sent to the South China seas. They need to find a special man-made island that is at risk of sparking an international incident that will escalate to a nuclear exchange. They must figure a way to stop the incident starting between America and China as they continue to grapple over ownership of these seas. At the base, they discover that it’s a scientific base for research purposes and not a military base. They capture the Commander and interrogate him on the sub. Why are the Chinese hiding the true nature of the base? It’s in our country’s interests to be construed as a threat, as it makes the other side more careful. But this can lead to war! They decide to send a file showing the inside of the base to the top US General which is sent via the internet. The General sees it and calls off the escalation, but then a strange disturbance on the base looks it could be a signal of powerful military weaponry, and be serving as a defense system for China that imbalances the power struggle for nuclear supremacy between the two superpowers. The tensions resurface again, but this time the Eco Kids needs to move on, as they have averted a potential disaster, but cannot be there the whole time to stop other escalations.
Ep 10 – Taking a rest
The team are ordered to take a rest, as they are run down and tired. They travel to the holiday resort of the Maldives. There they discover that some of the locals fear that the Maldives will soon be under water. The Maldives is only 5 feet above sea level, and experts say that by the end of the 21st century it will have disappeared. The Eco Kids agree with the locals that this is a big problem, and it could get a lot worse than just the Maldives. There are rumors that Miami will be the new Atlantis says one of the locals. Dr Vogel suggests that they ought to let some of the scientific data on the floating cities be released to the Maldives government as this may prepare them for the future, and that the Maldives was known to be the first to plan the cities of the future. I’m afraid no matter what we do we will most likely not stop things from happening to our environment as there is too much destruction going on, but the eco cities of the future will prove vital to the survival of the human race.
